Mutali

Beatrice Mutali is the United Nations Resident Coordinator (RC) and the UN Secretary General’s Representative in Zambia. She leads and coordinates the United Nations Country Team, comprising 24 UN Agencies, Funds, and Programmes, in support of Zambia’s sustainable development efforts. Beatrice ensures system-wide accountability, promotion, and advocacy of the fundamental values, standards, and principles of the UN Charter.
An Economist by profession, Beatrice brings over 30 years of private and public sector experience across high, middle, and low-income countries in both development and humanitarian contexts.

Before joining the United Nations RC System, Beatrice served in various roles within UNFPA, including Deputy Regional Director for East and Southern Africa, based in South Africa; Deputy Regional Director for West and Central Africa, based in Senegal; and UNFPA Representative to South Africa, Country Director for Botswana and Eswatini (2018-2021). During her tenure at UNFPA, she led successful resource mobilization efforts, programme development, delivery, and monitoring, and built strong partnerships.

Prior to UNFPA, Beatrice held leadership roles in Family Planning, HIV/AIDS, and Sexual and Reproductive Health with organizations such as Merck/MSD, the International HIV/AIDS Alliance, the International Planned Parenthood Federation, and the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Beatrice holds a master’s degree and a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Kurukshetra University, India. She speaks English, French and Kiswahili.
