Ranking digital rights in Africa: Assessing the policy and practices of telcos and how they affect digital rights.
Session Format: Panel Discussion
The Greater Internet Freedom Project, in collaboration with Ranking Digital Rights, Paradigm Initiative, and Internet Freedom Project Lesotho conducted research to evaluate how the policies and practices of telecommunication and digital financial services companies in Africa (Lesotho, Angola, Central African Republic, and The Democratic Republic of the Congo) affect human rights. The reports demonstrate the extent to which these companies protect the digital rights of users and provide recommendations to companies, policy makers and civil society organizations on how digital rights of users can be protected. The session will discuss the findings of the research and recommendations for civil society, policy makers and regulators.
