The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) has developed a guideline for a model law that can provide assistance to African Member States in the drafting of cybersecurity legislation which are compatible with best practices. This ECA’s guideline for a model law on computer enabled and computer related crimes is merely a guide. What impact will it have on pushing back against the enactment of problematic laws? This session proposes to dissect the impact of the ECA guide on enactment of cyber legislation in Africa.
